about rodeo

A Stampede Series rodeo features a thrilling mix of roughstock and timed events, showcasing the skill, courage and athleticism of the competitors and animals.

Events may vary between locations but can include:

Saddle Bronc Riding
Often described as rodeo’s classic event, riders use a specialised saddle and rein while attempting to match the movement and rhythm of a bucking horse.

Bareback Bronc Riding
A high-intensity event in which riders use one hand to hold onto a specialised rigging while riding a powerful bucking horse.

Bull Riding
One of rodeo’s most recognisable events, with riders attempting to remain aboard a bucking bull for eight seconds.

Barrel Racing
A fast-paced race against the clock in which horse and rider navigate a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels with speed and precision.

Additional events may be included. Check the relevant event page for the confirmed competition program.

At the National Rodeo Company, the welfare of our animals is a top priority. Our horses and bulls are highly valued athletes and are cared for by experienced stock contractors, handlers and veterinary professionals.

Strict animal welfare standards apply across every stage of the event, including transport, housing, handling and competition. The animals’ health and wellbeing are closely monitored, and there is zero tolerance for mistreatment.

Every effort is made to ensure the animals are treated with care, respect and professionalism at all times.
